A note from NDW:
The members of Not Drowning Waving are saddened to hear of the death of one of PNGs pioneering musicians, and good friend, John Wong.
John Wong, from Nusalaman village in the Tigak area of New Ireland, died last Sunday at 4pm in Kavieng of a heart attack. John was a huge figure in the PNG music scene in the 80s and 90s, playing with such legendary PNG bands as Barike and the Unbelievers of Tarike. His song Dust over Rabaul was a huge hit and meant a lot to the people of Rabaul after the destruction caused by the Volcanoe in 1993. Before his death, John had been living in Kavieng fighting for the survival of stringband music in New Ireland. He is survived by his wife Anita and many children. He will be greatly missed.

Welcome to Follow The Geography, an internet resource dedicated to Not Drowning, Waving and the continuing projects of David Bridie.
Between 1984 and 1994, Not Drowning, Waving was responsible for some truly adventurous, boundary-breaking contemporary music. Theirs was an unclassifiable sound that seamlessly merged worldbeat, ambient influences and neo-classical elements with rock and pop. Although the band is no more, its legacy continues in the solo works of David Bridie, and the more acoustically based My Friend the Chocolate Cake.
